Housing

Mario recognizes that we have a housing shortfall in California, and in Redlands, and it is driving up the price of renting and purchasing homes. In particular, he has identified a need for more senior-designated housing and more affordable housing. A climate-friendly action is to create mixed-use, mid-rise development in Redlands, particularly near transit stations. Mixed-use and multi-family units in such locations will encourage walking and reduce the need for cars, raise quality of life, encourage small businesses and secure Redlands’ economic future, and create healthy, safe neighborhoods. He supports the discussions around creating such projects at the University of Redlands and at the site of the defunct Redlands Mall which has sat empty (except for CVS) for over a decade.
